Why shy photographers work...
You know what is hard. Marketing when you are a shy person. Depending on the situation, you will see me struggle to put myself out there. It takes me a while to warm up to people.
When you are viewed as a social butterfly, people flock to you. I believe it is easier for people to instantly establish a connection and be willing to take a chance on you. Especially if you are starting out in a high-paced and oversaturated market.
However, what makes shy photographers different? They have an understanding of being nervous in front of the camera. Not knowing what to do and just feeling plain awkward. There is an empathy there that I feel is overlooked when meeting families or couples for the first time. Giving your clients the time and space to be themselves is a shy photographer's greatest strength. We have the excellent skill of being great listeners. We want to make ensure our clients feel heard and are attentive to their needs. We are observant and notice the small details in our clients’ emotions and body language. Lastly, we are deep thinkers. We take time to guarantee our clients will have an amazing experience.
Choose to embrace your shyness or awkwardness and make it your greatest strength. It is hard when self-doubt creeps in and says you are not good enough. But the right people will choose to work with you. Super corny phrase in closing, but just trust in the process and the universe's timing.
